Spelling Error

50 pesos coins issued in 2008 were spelled C-H-I-I-E instead C-H-I-L-E.

A pair of months ago, the national newspaper "El Mercurio" announced the news: the Chilean coins of 50 Pesos had a serious error. CHIIE was saying instead of CHILE.

Up to the date nobody knows how many coins were minted by this error, but the central bank of Chile (Banco Central de Chile) has already begun to withdraw them.

The coins have been monopolized by collectors of the whole world and at present it is very difficult and almost impossible to find them in circulation.

All the uncirculated coins were already eliminated.
